Khawarij Launch Night Attack in Bannu, Target Mosque and Civilian Area with Heavy Weapons

In a grave escalation of violence, the Khawarij launched a coordinated attack in the Miryan area of Bannu late Sunday night, targeting a mosque and the busy People’s Chowk with heavy weaponry. According to local sources, the assailants opened fire in the dead of night, striking the Mandio Mosque and surrounding civilian infrastructure. The walls and windows of the mosque and adjacent buildings suffered visible damage, though no casualties were reported as of the filing of this report.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the local population, raising fresh concerns about the resurgence and operational confidence of the Khawarij in settled areas. “This is not just an assault on property; it is an attack on our faith, our safety, and our way of life,” said a local resident, condemning the targeting of a place of worship and a public square frequented by civilians.

Security forces swiftly reached the scene, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation. Officials confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those behind the attack. The renewed wave of violence in Bannu has intensified calls for a decisive response. Residents demand that the state move beyond reactive measures and adopt a proactive strategy to dismantle Khawarij networks operating in the region with impunity.
