Taliban Intelligence Facility Attacked in Parwan; Afghanistan Freedom Front Claims Responsibility

The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed responsibility for a deadly assault on a Taliban intelligence facility in Charikar, the capital of Parwan province, carried out on the evening of Monday, July 7. In an official statement released following the strike, the AFF said that two Taliban members were killed and three others sustained injuries in the operation. While Taliban authorities have yet to comment on the incident, local sources confirmed that an explosion occurred in the area, though further details remain scarce.

The AFF also released video footage allegedly capturing the moment of the attack. The clip features the sound of a powerful explosion followed by thick smoke rising from the vicinity of the targeted facility.

Independent sources speaking to Afghanistan International on Tuesday corroborated the group’s account, stating that a Taliban checkpoint in Charikar had indeed been struck.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front is among several armed resistance groups that have carried out intermittent attacks on Taliban installations since the group’s return to power in August 2021. The latest assault in Parwan signals the continued volatility facing the de facto rulers amid growing insurgent activity across northern provinces.

As of Tuesday evening, no official response had been issued by the Taliban regarding the reported casualties or damage caused in the Charikar strike.
