In a successful covert operation in Kandahar, unidentified operatives have eliminated Naqeebullah Agha, a key khariji commander of the India-backed terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), or Fitna al-Khawarij, as declared by the state. Agha served as the regional operational head of the group and was considered the mastermind behind several deadly attacks across the region.
According to intelligence sources, Agha was working to destabilise Pakistan from across the border under foreign sponsorship. His elimination is seen as a significant success in the fight against terrorism.
This development follows another recent blow to Fitna al-Khawarij: On Saturday, two senior TTP commanders were targeted in Afghanistan’s Kunar province while allegedly constructing an improvised explosive device (IED). The blast killed Commander Tahir, also known as Qari Tayyab, on the spot, while Commander Jannat Gul alias Ghazi was seriously injured.
Both militants had reportedly been hiding in Afghanistan since 2009. Security officials say these back-to-back incidents have considerably weakened Khawarij’s command structure in the region.
