A group of Khawarij launched a fire raid on a check post near Dewagar, the border town of Ghulam Khan Tehsil of North Waziristan on Tuesday. The post came under sudden and intense small arms fire from the assailants.
The troops responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle. In the exchange of fire, one soldier, Havaldar Farman, sustained serious injuries. He was evacuated for urgent medical treatment.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and a clearance operation is underway to neutralise any remaining threat. Initial reports suggest that the attack was a hit-and-run ambush, a typical tactic employed by the Khawarij operating in the region.
Military officials condemned the attack, reiterating the armed forces’ resolve to eliminate terrorism from its roots and continue operations until the complete restoration of peace in tribal districts.
This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by remnants of terror groups in the border areas, despite ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
