Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza has warned that tensions between Pakistan and India remain unresolved, and the risk of a strategic miscalculation cannot be ruled out.

In an interview with a foreign news agency, Gen. Mirza stated that although the situation has de-escalated since the height of the recent standoff, the region has only returned to a pre-April 22 status quo, a fragile calm with underlying volatility. “Nothing is happening at the moment, but the tension is still there,” he remarked.

He emphasized that during the recent Pakistan-India confrontation, neither side moved toward the use of nuclear weapons, but the situation remained extremely dangerous. “In such tense environments, reactions can be unpredictable, and the possibility of missteps remains real,” he cautioned.

Gen. Mirza further stated that any future conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations would likely not be confined to disputed regions alone but could spill over across the entirety of both countries.

He stressed that the latest confrontation has blurred the traditional boundaries of engagement between the two nations. “The time window for international mediation is shrinking,” he warned, adding that such crises can only be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, not through warfare.
