Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, has said that durable peace in South Asia remains impossible without the just and final resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
According to News, Ambassador Akram made these remarks while briefing the ambassadors of the Arab Group on the current regional situation in South Asia. He warned that India’s recent unilateral actions — including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty — constitute provocations and represent blatant violations of international law and the UN Charter.
He further stated that Pakistan’s response to India’s aggressive actions was a measured one, taken under the inherent right of self-defense as enshrined in the UN Charter.
Ambassador Akram reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining the ceasefire along the Line of Control and to taking all necessary steps to reduce tensions in the region. He underscored that Pakistan remains steadfast in its desire for peace, but stressed that lasting regional stability cannot be achieved without addressing the core issue of Kashmir.
“The Jammu and Kashmir dispute lies at the heart of regional tensions,” he emphasized, “and until it is resolved in line with the Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people, South Asia will continue to face instability.”
The briefing was part of Pakistan’s continued diplomatic outreach to engage the international community on the deteriorating regional security situation and India’s violations of bilateral and international commitments.
