In yet another grim reminder of cross-border terrorism, a drone attack by the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)—an outfit reportedly funded by India to promote terrorism in Pakistan—tragically misfired in North Waziristan, killing innocent children when the projectile struck a residential area instead of its intended military target.
The attack, carried out using a quadcopter drone, was meant to target Pakistani security forces. However, the mortar dropped from the drone fell on a civilian home, resulting in the martyrdom of children and triggering widespread shock and condemnation.
The incident occurred shortly after the TTP openly threatened to launch drone-based strikes against Pakistan’s security forces. In propaganda videos released by the group’s official media arm, Umer Media, TTP militants showcased such drone attacks targeting security installations.
According to intelligence sources, the drones used in these attacks are believed to have been supplied to the TTP by Indian operatives through handlers based in Afghanistan. The development has raised serious concerns over India’s growing role in funding and facilitating terrorism in the region.
Officials denounced the targeting of civilians—especially children—as a heinous and cowardly act that exposes both the TTP’s brutality and its foreign-sponsored agenda. Security forces have since intensified counter-terrorism operations in the region, vowing to eliminate the threat and protect civilian lives.
