Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a notable rise in attacks targeting police personnel this year, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the province. According to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a total of 510 attacks were carried out against police forces in 2025, compared to 327 incidents reported during the previous year.
Despite this surge, counterterrorism efforts have intensified across the province. This year, the CTD conducted 2,791 intelligence-based operations, marking a three percent increase from the 2,703 operations carried out last year. These efforts have led to the arrest of 1,244 suspects, significantly higher than the 744 arrests recorded in 2024. Among those apprehended, 25 high-value terrorists, each carrying government-issued rewards, were captured in major operations.
The data also shows a substantial escalation in counterterrorism activities over the past five years, with operations against terrorists more than doubling compared to previous years. Meanwhile, overall terrorist attacks have slightly declined, with 137 incidents reported this year compared to 147 last year. Bomb explosions have dropped from 277 to 108, and the number of landmines discovered and defused fell sharply from 420 to 43.
CTD officials reported a 50 percent rise in the registration of terrorism-related cases, increasing from 1,058 last year to 1,588 in 2025. In response to 158 terrorist attacks on law enforcement, police forces carried out 320 operational responses, reflecting a proactive approach in containing threats and safeguarding public security.
The data underscores both the persistent threat posed by terrorist networks and the commitment of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and CTD to counter these threats through intelligence-driven operations and sustained law enforcement actions. Authorities reaffirmed that continued vigilance, strategic operations, and community cooperation remain critical to maintaining stability and protecting citizens from terrorist activities.
