Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has issued a strong yet measured warning to India, stating that while Pakistan prioritises peace, it remains fully prepared for any conflict if war is imposed.
In an exclusive interview with a British media outlet, the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stressed that nuclear war between Pakistan and India would be an act of sheer foolishness, leading to mutual destruction. “A nuclear conflict is not only unimaginable—it should be deemed irrational and unacceptable,” he said.
Lt. Gen. Sharif emphasized that Pakistan has acted with maturity and restraint in recent times, particularly amid rising tensions. He noted that while Pakistan desires peace, any aggression will be met with a resolute and proportionate response.
Commenting on India’s recent rhetoric and internal discourse, he remarked, “India is playing with fire through its fabricated narratives. Every few years, New Delhi constructs a new false story, but the world is now increasingly aware of the baselessness of India’s long-standing positions.”
The DG ISPR criticised the Indian government’s failure to address serious questions about internal security lapses, particularly regarding the recent incident in Pahalgam. “Has anyone in the Indian leadership asked how such a massive security breach occurred? Is there any reflection or accountability?” he asked.
He added that India appears more focused on manipulating public opinion for domestic political gains than seeking genuine de-escalation or justice. “You don’t see any responsible political leadership emerging from India at this moment,” he said.
Lt. Gen. Sharif further revealed that on the night between May 9 and 10, Pakistan delivered a “measured, coordinated, and proportionate” military response, demonstrating a limited but effective display of conventional power and technical capability. “After that, you saw India retreating and suddenly expressing interest in dialogue and de-escalation,” he noted.
He concluded by stating that Pakistan is celebrating peace today but remains vigilant. “We love peace, but we are always ready for war. If war is desired, then war it shall be.”
