Former Indian Army Chief, General (Retd.) Manoj Naravane, has sharply criticised segments of the Indian media for irresponsibly fuelling pro-war sentiment, calling the glorification of conflict “deeply unfortunate.”

In a candid statement, General Naravane emphasized that war is not a Bollywood spectacle but a grave and serious matter. “The way public opinion is being incited towards full-scale war is alarming and disappointing,” he remarked, warning of the devastating human cost that such rhetoric can bring.

He stressed that the psychological impact of war, especially on civilians living in border areas and children, is long-lasting and traumatic. “We must prioritise diplomacy and peaceful dialogue over the drums of war,” he added.

Naravane’s remarks come at a time of heightened tensions in the region, offering a sobering counterpoint to increasingly aggressive narratives pushed by some media outlets.

His statement has drawn attention across political and defence circles, sparking debate on the role of media and the responsibility of leadership in conflict-sensitive times.
