The United States has imposed fresh sanctions on individuals and entities supporting Iran’s ballistic missile program, targeting six individuals and 12 companies—several of which involve Chinese nationals—according to a report by a foreign news agency.
The new sanctions, announced on Wednesday, are part of a broader campaign by the U.S. administration, which in recent weeks has also levied multiple sanctions on individuals and institutions linked to Iran’s oil industry and nuclear program.
According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the latest measures are aimed at entities assisting the Iranian government in the domestic production of sensitive materials critical to Tehran’s ballistic missile development.
“These sanctions underscore our resolve,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant in an official statement. “The United States cannot permit Iran to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles.”
He added that Iran’s efforts to indigenously manufacture missiles and their components represent an unacceptable threat to U.S. national security and regional stability.
The sanctions come at a sensitive time, as nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran are currently underway. The two nations resumed talks last month in pursuit of a new agreement aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
These developments highlight the complex and evolving landscape of U.S.-Iran relations, where diplomatic engagement is being coupled with renewed pressure through economic sanctions.
