Unidentified Khwarij launched a heavy assault on the Fathakhel police checkpost in Bannu late Thursday night, critically injuring a police constable, officials confirmed.
According to Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bannu Sajjad Khan, militants attacked the Fathakhel police checkpost using heavy weaponry. However, the assailants were repelled following a strong retaliatory response from the police force.
In a show of swift leadership, RPO Sajjad Khan, District Police Officer (DPO) Salim Abbas Kulachi, and the SP Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Operations rushed to the site to lead the police operation on the ground.
Police sources said that one constable sustained critical injuries due to militant fire and was promptly shifted to the hospital for treatment.
A high alert has been issued, and a search operation has been launched to apprehend those involved in the attack, the police added.
