The United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference 2025 commenced on Tuesday with a strong acknowledgment of Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to global peacekeeping, as UN Under-Secretary for Operational Support Atul Khare praised the country’s contributions in some of the world’s most difficult conflict zones.
Addressing the opening session, Khare stated that Pakistan “is one of the leading countries contributing actively to United Nations peacekeeping missions,” reaffirming its position as a key pillar in the international peace and security framework.
The two-day conference, co-hosted by Pakistan and the Republic of Korea, will serve as a precursor to the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial meeting scheduled for next month in Berlin, Germany. The event brings together high-level participants from UN member states to deliberate on the evolving challenges and opportunities in peacekeeping operations.
Panel discussions during the conference will focus on the future of UN peacekeeping, including the use of advanced technology to enhance safety and effectiveness, the role of regional and cross-regional organizations, peacekeeper performance, and integrated strategies for achieving sustainable peace.
With a proud legacy spanning decades, Pakistan has deployed over 235,000 peacekeepers across 48 UN missions, with 181 personnel having laid down their lives in the service of international peace. The conference offers a significant platform to underscore Pakistan’s unwavering commitment as a leading troop-contributing country and its continued dedication to global peace and stability.
