The United Nations has lauded the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India, calling it a significant move towards regional stability and lasting peace.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in an official statement, welcomed the decision by both countries to honour the ceasefire and end hostilities, terming it a “vital step” in defusing long-standing tensions. He expressed hope that this development would open the door for sustained dialogue and meaningful engagement between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
“The Secretary-General welcomes the cessation of hostilities between Pakistan and India,” the statement read. “The United Nations has been closely following developments in the region, and we are pleased to witness this encouraging shift towards de-escalation.”
Guterres reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting efforts that promote peace, stability, and mutual understanding in South Asia. He urged both sides to build on this momentum through diplomatic channels and resolve all outstanding issues through peaceful means.
The UN chief’s remarks signal strong international support for the ceasefire and a renewed push for diplomacy over conflict in the region.
