The United States has once again acknowledged Pakistan’s vital contributions to global peace and its enduring sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. In high-level talks held in Washington, both countries reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the State Department, marking their first in-person meeting. Prior to this, the two had only spoken via telephone. Upon arrival, Dar was received by senior U.S. officials, with Pakistan’s Ambassador to the U.S., Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, also in attendance.
Senior officials from both sides participated in the delegation-level discussions, which covered a broad range of areas including trade, economic ties, investment, agriculture, technology, and mineral development. Counter-terrorism and regional peace were also prominently featured in the talks.
During the meeting, Secretary Rubio praised Pakistan’s unmatched sacrifices in the war against terrorism, noting its consistent efforts in promoting both regional and global peace.
Deputy Prime Minister Dar, in turn, appreciated the role of U.S. leadership, including President Donald Trump, in promoting global peace. He specifically commended President Trump’s mediation efforts during recent Pakistan-India tensions.
Dar stressed Pakistan’s commitment to broadening and stabilising bilateral relations, expressing optimism over the progress of the ongoing Pakistan-U.S. Trade Dialogue. He also encouraged greater engagement by American investors, describing Pakistan as an increasingly attractive destination for foreign business.
“There is alignment between our two countries in terms of regional peace and shared strategic interests,” Dar said, adding that the Pakistani diaspora in the U.S. serves as a bridge between the two nations.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening institutional linkages and enhancing cooperation across key strategic areas.
It is worth noting that in June 2025, U.S. CENTCOM Commander General Michael Kurilla described Pakistan as a “tremendous partner” in the global fight against terrorism, especially the ISIS, underlining the country’s continued relevance in regional and international security frameworks.
