The United States on imposed new sanctions on three Iranian nationals and an affiliated entity linked to Iran’s nuclear activities, in a move aimed at intensifying pressure on Tehran amid ongoing diplomatic negotiations.
According to international news sources, the individuals and the entity are connected to Iran’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND), which has long been suspected of involvement in sensitive military and nuclear-related projects. The U.S. Treasury Department has frozen all assets of the sanctioned parties under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibited any financial or commercial transactions with them.
“These individuals remain actively engaged in advancing Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities and delivery systems, in direct defiance of international norms,” said U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a statement. “Their actions pose a grave threat to global peace and security, and the United States will continue to act decisively to counter Iran’s destabilizing behavior.”
The new sanctions were announced just a day after the conclusion of the fourth round of nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, where negotiators are attempting to revive a deal that would restrict Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear program is intended solely for peaceful purposes and denies seeking nuclear weapons.
The development underscores Washington’s dual-track approach of pursuing diplomatic engagement while maintaining economic pressure to deter Iran’s alleged ambitions.
