Two young men were martyred and another critically injured after an explosive device abandoned by militants detonated in the Janat Shah area of Bajaur district on Wednesday, officials confirmed.

According to police, the incident took place on 26 November 2025, when leftover explosives planted by the militants exploded near a civilian locality. The blast killed two youth on the spot, while a third individual sustained severe injuries and was shifted to a hospitals in critical condition.

Police and security agencies immediately cordoned off the area, collected forensic evidence, and launched a formal investigation. Officials believe the device was part of the hazardous stockpiles left behind by militants in populated areas, posing a deliberate threat to innocent civilians.

Earlier Blast Killed Three Children in Mamund

This latest tragedy follows a similar incident on 27 September 2025 in the Lagharai area of Mamund tehsil, where an explosive device abandoned by militants detonated while children were playing with it. That blast resulted in the martyrdom of three children and injuries to five others, triggering widespread grief and anger in the district.

Residents say these incidents have exposed the extent to which militants have turned civilian neighbourhoods into dangerous minefields over the years.

Militants Leave Behind Dangerous Networks of Explosives

Local elders and security officials agree that the repeated blasts demonstrate how the militant network, referred to by state as the “Khawarij,” has scattered lethal explosive devices across parts of Bajaur in an attempt to create long-term insecurity and fear.

“These hidden devices show how militants endanger ordinary people even after fleeing the area,” a local community representative said.

Pakistan Army’s Clearance Efforts Underway Despite Sacrifices

With continued support from the local population, the Pakistan Army has been conducting wide-ranging clearance operations across Bajaur. Security officials report that more than 100 kilometres of terrain has been cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance so far.

These operations often involve significant risks; several army personnel have embraced martyrdom in the line of duty during such clearance missions.

Authorities Urge Public Vigilance

Authorities have appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or abandoned objects to security forces immediately.

“The people of Bajaur have endured immense suffering,” a security official said. “Community cooperation is crucial so that the district can be fully cleared of these lingering threats.”
