Two Pakistani nationals were killed in Iran’s border city of Sarbaz, in a disturbing incident that follows a recent pattern of violence against migrant workers in southeastern Iran. The victims have been identified as Mujahid from Ahmedpur East in Bahawalpur district and Muhammad Faheem from Karachi. Both men were working at a local barbershop in Sarbaz and had been residing in Iran for several years in connection with their employment.
Preliminary reports suggest that Mujahid was murdered in a targeted attack, with the perpetrators circulating a video of the killing. Muhammad Faheem was allegedly abducted and held for ransom before being killed.
This latest development comes just two months after eight Pakistani workers from Bahawalpur were similarly killed in Iran’s Mehrestan district. On April 12, unidentified gunmen reportedly bound and executed the men at a local workshop where they had worked as motor mechanics for nearly five years.
The bodies of those victims were handed over to Pakistan’s Consulate General in Zahedan after completion of medico-legal procedures and official documentation. Repeated incidents involving Pakistani labourers in Iran have drawn attention to the risks faced by migrant workers in the region. Authorities in Pakistan are expected to take up the matter with Iranian officials to ensure justice and arrange the early repatriation of the victims’ remains.
