Two Iranian police officers were killed and another injured in a cross-border terrorist attack on a security outpost in Baneh County, near the Siran Band border crossing shared with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The assault marks a serious escalation in militant activity along Iran’s western frontier.
According to the Iranian Police Information Center, the attackers believed to be affiliated with an armed terrorist group targeted the border post, using the cover of rugged terrain and darkness to strike with precision. The ambush resulted in immediate casualties among the deployed personnel.
The injured officer was promptly evacuated and is currently receiving medical treatment. Authorities have described the attack as a calculated act of aggression aimed at destabilizing the region and challenging Iran’s border security architecture.
“This was a deliberate terrorist operation originating from across the border,” a senior Iranian security official stated. “Iran reserves the right to respond decisively, and those responsible will be held fully accountable.”
Security forces have launched a large-scale counterterrorism operation in the area, deploying reinforcements and enhancing surveillance along vulnerable corridors. Intelligence units are working to identify the group involved, which is suspected to be operating out of safe havens within the adjacent Kurdish territories of northern Iraq.
Baneh, situated in Iran’s Kurdistan Province, has long been vulnerable to insurgent infiltration and smuggling routes exploited by anti-state elements. Iranian authorities have repeatedly urged neighboring administrations to prevent their soil from being used by armed groups to launch attacks across the border.
The government has reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard national security and warned that any future attempts to threaten the country’s territorial integrity will be met with immediate and forceful retaliation.
