Two high-value khawarij wanted in connection with the killing of five schoolteachers in Pakistan’s Kurram district were shot dead during an intelligence-based operation in Tari Mangal, security officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The suspects, identified as Hafeez-ur-Rehman and Wajid Gul, were both on the government’s most-wanted list. Authorities had placed bounties of Rs 5 million on each.
According to security sources, the operation was launched following credible intelligence about their location. A brief but intense exchange of fire ensued, during which both suspects were killed.
Investigators say the two men were responsible for a gun attack that targeted school staff in Kurram last year, an incident that triggered widespread condemnation and grief. They were also believed to be involved in several other targeted killings in the region.
Officials described the operation as a major success in the broader counter-terrorism campaign and said the removal of these high-value targets would contribute to restoring stability in the area.
A follow-up search is underway to locate any remaining associates or facilitators.
