Two members of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) were killed on Friday when unidentified gunmen opened fire in the Dasht Kalan Amiri Nechar area of Kalat district. The deceased were identified as Siraj Ahmed and Muhammad Ishaq, both known operatives of the proscribed group. According to officials, the two were targeted while present in the area, though the motive and identities of the attackers remain unclear.
Security forces reached the site soon after the incident, cordoned off the locality, and shifted the bodies to a nearby health facility for medico-legal formalities. Forensic teams also collected evidence from the crime scene.
Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation to track down the assailants. Investigators are examining whether the killings were linked to rivalries among militant factions or part of a broader campaign of targeted action against insurgent operatives.
The BLA has been responsible for numerous attacks in Balochistan, including assaults on security forces, infrastructure projects, and civilians. Kalat, located in central Balochistan, has in recent years seen intermittent activity by insurgent elements seeking to destabilise the region.
Officials reiterated their resolve to continue operations against proscribed organisations. “The elimination of such elements is vital to ensuring peace in Balochistan. The perpetrators of today’s attack will be pursued and brought to justice,” a security official said.
