Turkey Confirms Talks with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Regional Defence Cooperation

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed that discussions have taken place regarding potential defence cooperation involving Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, but emphasized that no formal agreement has been signed.

Speaking at a press conference in Istanbul, Minister Fidan highlighted the importance of broader regional cooperation and mutual trust. He noted that many regional challenges could be more effectively addressed if countries were confident in each other’s intentions.

“At the moment, there are meetings and talks, but we have not signed any agreement,” Fidan said. “Our President, Tayyip Erdogan, envisions an inclusive platform that fosters wider, stronger cooperation and long-term stability.” While he did not specifically name Pakistan or Saudi Arabia during his remarks, media reports indicate that discussions have included these countries.

The Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized that the focus is on building trust-based partnerships in the region rather than entering immediate formal alliances. Such an approach, he explained, could facilitate solutions to security, economic, and political challenges that transcend national boundaries.

Fidan’s comments underscore Turkey’s continued interest in promoting multilateral engagement and inclusive regional frameworks to address complex geopolitical issues, reinforcing the country’s role as a diplomatic hub for constructive dialogue in the Middle East and South Asia.

Turkey remains committed to ongoing consultations with regional partners to explore avenues for collaboration, strengthen security cooperation, and support stability across the broader region.
