In response to the recent surge in lawlessness in Subdivision Wazir, a high-level tribal jirga was convened at Gambati, where tribal elders and youth from across the region unanimously pledged to support law enforcement and take resolute action against anti-state elements and criminal activity. The jirga, presided over by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rahim Ayaz Khan, drew wide representation from the Bezan Khel, Asparka, Khojel Khel, Gangi Khel, Emarzai, Hathi Khel, Khuni Khel, and several other notable tribes. The gathering underscored the growing concern among local communities regarding deteriorating security and the urgent need for collective countermeasures.
Participants strongly condemned those involved in destabilising the region, declaring that individuals engaged in anti-government activities, militancy, or criminal behavior would no longer be tolerated. In a rare display of consensus, the tribal elders resolved that any person defying the jirga’s decisions would face firm, coordinated action by all tribes, in close cooperation with the police.
“The unity of our people is our greatest strength. Anyone who dares to undermine the peace of this land will find us united against them,” said DSP Rahim Ayaz Khan, while addressing the jirga.
The jirga also outlined a joint action plan to eradicate narcotics, aerial firing, and other illicit activities that have plagued the region. The tribes committed to working hand-in-hand with the police to implement a targeted and sustained strategy to ensure law and order.
The event was widely hailed as a proactive and constructive step toward stabilising Subdivision Wazir. Community leaders termed it a turning point in reinforcing traditional tribal mechanisms in support of state authority and long-term peacebuilding.
Authorities expressed hope that the unity demonstrated by the tribal leadership would not only deter subversive elements but also serve as a model for other conflict-affected areas in the region.
