In a meeting held in Tirah Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, tribal elders and military officials emphasised close cooperation to prevent militant activities and protect local communities.
The jirga, attended by around 50 participants including Malik Khyal Zaman, Chairman Mufti Kafeel, Malik Jadran, Malik Shah Lan, Malik Gul Ghafoor, and Malik Badar Shah, was opened by Colonel Farhan, who welcomed the elders and assured them that the brigade’s doors remain open for dialogue and collaboration.
Key discussions focused on denying safe havens to Taliban and other militant elements, and ensuring that children and civilians are not exposed to danger. Chairman Mufti Kafeel highlighted the importance of consultation between the military and tribal leadership to resolve local security issues.
Malik Khyal Zaman stressed the need for tribal support, noting the hardships faced by the nation. Malik Jadran confirmed that following a meeting with Lashkar-e-Islam commander Dawood, any presence of militants in villages, guesthouses, or markets would lead to immediate evacuation, with no support provided by the locals. Temporary market closures would allow security forces to conduct operations unhindered.
Military officials clarified that operations have never targeted civilian homes, with drones used for continuous monitoring of militants. In a recent convoy attack, no retaliatory fire was aimed at civilian residences, ensuring the safety of non-combatants.
The jirga concluded with assurances from the tribal leadership that their communities will not shelter or support any terrorist groups, followed by tea and hospitality for all participants.
