Residents of Tirah Valley in Khyber district have agreed to temporarily relocate to enable a comprehensive security operation aimed at eliminating terrorist elements from the area, following a successful jirga between local representatives, security institutions, and the civil administration.
The agreement was reached after detailed consultations with a 24-member representative committee of Tirah Valley, culminating in a formal understanding signed by both sides. The local population assured full cooperation with law enforcement agencies and district authorities to ensure the smooth conduct of the operation and the protection of civilian lives.
According to official sources, the phased relocation process will begin on January 10, while the entire valley is expected to be vacated by January 25. Once the security operation is concluded, the gradual return of displaced families will commence after April 5 under a structured rehabilitation plan.
As part of the agreed compensation framework, families whose houses are completely destroyed during the operation will receive Rs3 million, while those suffering partial damage will be compensated with Rs1 million. In addition, each displaced family will be provided Rs250,000 in immediate cash assistance following biometric verification, disbursed through JazzCash or Easypaisa. A monthly subsistence allowance of Rs50,000 will also be paid to affected households during the displacement period.
Authorities have assured that comprehensive arrangements are being made to facilitate the displaced population. These include the provision of transport services, medical facilities along transit routes, and food supplies. Biometric verification will be conducted at designated centers in Bagh Markaz and Pandi Cheena to ensure transparency and accuracy in the distribution of assistance. Families that relocate prior to January 10 will also be formally surveyed and included in the relief framework.
Official sources said that all steps are being taken with a strong emphasis on transparency, coordination, and the welfare of affected residents. The objective, they added, is to ensure that both the displacement and subsequent rehabilitation processes are conducted in a disciplined, humane, and efficient manner, minimizing hardship for civilians while restoring lasting peace and security in Tirah Valley.
