Unidentified assailants mounted a firing raid on the Gilgit Scouts camp in Chilas late Friday, injuring at least three security personnel and triggering a large-scale search operation, officials said. According to the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, the injured personnel were immediately shifted to the district hospital in Chilas where they are under treatment. The area surrounding the camp was swiftly cordoned off by security forces, while reinforcements were deployed to prevent further escalation.
Authorities confirmed that the attack has been categorised as a firing raid. However, the identity of the attackers and their motives remain unclear. Law enforcement agencies have launched a combing operation across the region to trace the perpetrators and secure nearby installations.
Officials described the incident as a “serious breach of security” in the sensitive mountainous district of Diamer, where Chilas serves as a key administrative and transit hub. The government has assured that “all resources are being mobilised to bring those responsible to justice” and emphasised that the situation is under control.
The attack has raised concerns over the security environment in Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly in Chilas, a region that has witnessed sporadic incidents of violence in the past. Authorities stated that further updates will be shared once the investigation progresses and additional details are confirmed.
