Terrorists from the banned Tehreek Taliban Pakistan, also known as Fitna al-Khawarij (FAK), launched an armed assault on a police checkpoint near Laira Bridge in the Fateh Khel area of Bannu district.
The attackers used both light and heavy weapons during the assault. In response, the Pakistan Army dispatched Quick Response Force (QRF) units and armoured vehicles from Bannu Cantonment. A joint cordon-and-search operation was launched immediately in coordination with local police.
Security forces successfully intercepted the terrorists near Khangar Bridge, killing three Khawarij and injuring several others. Blood trails and personal belongings recovered from the site indicate that wounded attackers were evacuated by their fleeing accomplices.
During the exchange, Constable Rukhniyaz was martyred, and three other personnel were injured. All injured were promptly moved to the hospital for medical attention.
Due to the swift and coordinated action between police and army units, the attack was repelled before greater damage could occur. A follow-up operation is ongoing to trace and arrest the fleeing militants.
