Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, delivered a keynote address at the National Scholars and Spiritual Leaders Conference held on December 10, 2025, in Islamabad. The conference witnessed robust participation from religious scholars and spiritual leaders representing diverse schools of thought from across the country.

During his address, Field Marshal Munir highlighted the evolving security challenges facing Pakistan, emphasizing that terrorism supported by Afghan Taliban elements continues to target innocent civilians, including women and children. He noted that formations linked to the extremist group “Fitna al-Khawarij,” originating from Afghanistan, comprise approximately 70% Afghan nationals.

Field Marshal Munir underscored Pakistan’s role as a responsible Islamic state and reflected on the country’s unique historical and religious significance. Drawing parallels between the Islamic State of Madinah and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, he stated that both were established on the foundation of the sacred Kalima Tayyiba during blessed times of Ramadan and were entrusted with the honor of serving as guardians of the holy sanctuaries. He also cited the recent successes of Operation Bunyan al-Marsous, attributing its achievements to divine support.

Highlighting the centrality of knowledge, faith, and unity, Field Marshal Munir stressed that no authority outside the state can issue decrees for jihad in an Islamic country. He also emphasized that nations that abandon the intellectual and scholarly heritage of their ancestors ultimately face decline, calling upon Pakistanis to uphold their cultural and intellectual legacy.

The Field Marshal’s remarks further covered Pakistan’s strategic preparedness, national security priorities, and the country’s emerging role in international affairs. By addressing terrorism, jihad, and regional security challenges in a scholarly forum, Field Marshal Munir reinforced Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and maintaining regional stability.
