Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, has revealed that terrorist networks operating in the province have begun deploying advanced, high-tech drones for surveillance and sabotage missions signaling a dangerous new phase in militant tactics. Speaking to the media, the IG said the increasing use of drones by terrorist elements is a matter of grave concern, warning that the trend is likely to accelerate in the coming months. “We are witnessing a strategic shift. Terrorist groups are now using high-tech drones to bypass traditional security mechanisms and carry out reconnaissance and potential attacks,” he stated.
In response, the provincial police have initiated steps to modernize their own capabilities. Zulfiqar Hameed said the KP Police is working on the urgent procurement of surveillance drones to be deployed across all districts. “There is an operational need to equip each district with drones. Work on this front is already underway, and this gap will soon be bridged,” he added.
The police chief stressed that modern threats demand modern solutions. “We are not only upgrading our weaponry but also integrating new technologies into our policing framework. In today’s environment, technology is not a luxury it is a necessity for effective law enforcement and public safety.”
He further noted that KP Police is shifting toward intelligence-led, tech-driven operations to counter evolving terrorist methodologies. “Our goal is to stay ahead of these threats. Advanced drone capabilities, digital surveillance tools, and modern equipment are central to this strategy,” the IG said.
The revelation comes amid a broader regional concern over the use of emerging technologies by militant groups, underlining the urgency of equipping frontline law enforcement agencies with the tools needed to meet new-age security challenges.
