In a daring and decisive operation, the Bannu police successfully repelled a major terrorist attack on the Khuniya Khel police post, killing three terrorists and injuring nine others. The operation underscores the courage, vigilance, and professional expertise of the region’s law enforcement personnel.
According to official reports, the terrorists launched a heavily armed assault under the cover of darkness, intending to seize control of the police post. Despite being outnumbered and facing a coordinated attempt to encircle the post, the on-duty police officers remained fully alert and engaged the terrorists with remarkable bravery and tactical precision.
Reinforcements, including Quick Response Forces (QRF) and Regional Response Forces (RRF), were immediately deployed under the directives of DIG Bannu Region Sajad Khan and DPO Bannu Yasir Afridi. The combined efforts of the police personnel forced the terrorists to retreat, inflicting heavy casualties. Among the terrorists killed was identified commander Umar Azam, also known as Khazmati, along with Shahidullah. Identification of the third terrorist is ongoing.
During the exchange, one police officer sustained minor injuries but is now in stable condition.
Following the failed assault, the terrorists attempted retaliatory attacks on the Ahmedzai Police Station and Fatah Khel Police Post. These attacks were swiftly foiled by alert and well-prepared police personnel, compelling the attackers to flee.
DIG Sajad Khan lauded the bravery, resilience, and professionalism of the Bannu police officers involved, announcing awards and cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding performance. He reaffirmed that the Bannu region will not tolerate the presence of terrorists and vowed to systematically dismantle their networks.
“The courageous and determined officers of Bannu Region are ready to confront any threat. God willing, we will soon make the entire Bannu region completely free of terrorism,” DIG Khan stated.
