A police constable was martyred in a targeted attack by militants in the Sairako Kamar area of Panyala Tehsil, Dera Ismail Khan district, on Monday, police officials confirmed.
According to initial reports, the attackers ambushed Constable Abdul Qayyum, also known as Khani, and opened fire at close range. The police officer sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot before medical assistance could arrive.
Following the incident, the body was taken into custody and shifted to a nearby hospital for legal formalities and post-mortem examination. Police officials said a first information report (FIR) is being registered, and multiple investigative teams have been formed to trace the attackers.
Senior police officers visited the scene, while security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Checkpoints have been set up on key routes to prevent the suspects from fleeing.
Authorities described the attack as a deliberate act of violence against law enforcement personnel. “Such incidents will not weaken the resolve of the police force,” a senior official said, adding that those responsible would be brought to justice.
The deadly assault has sparked concern among local residents, who have called for enhanced security measures in the area. Investigations into the motive and perpetrators of the attack are ongoing.
