A powerful bomb attack targeted the office of former Nazim Fida Muhammad Khan Wazir in Domel Bazaar, Bannu, leaving him slightly injured and causing significant damage to property, local authorities confirmed. The attack highlights the ongoing threat posed by Taliban-linked militants operating in the region and underscores the volatility of security in North-West Pakistan.
According to police reports, the explosive device had been planted at the main gate of Fida Muhammad Khan Wazir’s office and detonated while he was inside his vehicle. His vehicle was completely destroyed, and nearby areas, including the office gate, sustained significant damage. Fortunately, the former Nazim sustained only minor injuries, but the blast triggered widespread fear and tension in the area.
The attack comes in the wake of escalating local unrest. Yesterday, two members of the Hathi Khel and Taus Khel tribes were reportedly abducted near Domel Khargi Hotel by unknown assailants. This incident had already provoked anger among tribal elders, who threatened to mobilize in protest.
Fida Muhammad Khan Wazir has historically played a key role in anti-terrorism peace movements in the region and has actively participated in establishing local militias to maintain law and order. He was reportedly on his way to an important tribal meeting at his office when the explosion occurred.
Following the blast, tensions escalated sharply. Local elders and a large number of armed youth took to the streets, occupying positions along Bannu-Kohat Road and surrounding areas, demanding justice and security.
Police responded promptly, securing the area and launching a thorough investigation. Evidence has been collected from the scene, and authorities have promised to hold the perpetrators accountable under the law. Security forces continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation.
While investigations continue, local sources and security analysts suggest the attack is likely linked to Taliban-backed elements operating in North Waziristan and across the Afghan border. Such groups have historically targeted pro-peace tribal leaders and anti-terror activists in the region, using intimidation, abduction, and assassination attempts to destabilize local governance structures.
This attack serves as a grim reminder of the Afghan Taliban’s continued cross-border influence, which threatens not only the peaceful tribal leadership in Bannu but also the broader stability of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. By targeting respected leaders and exploiting local grievances, Taliban-linked militants aim to sow fear, weaken governance, and perpetuate chaos.
The people of Bannu and local authorities face a critical moment. Tribal elders, local leaders, and security forces are working together to ensure that law and order prevail, and that those responsible for this heinous attack are brought to justice. The incident underscores the urgent need for regional cooperation to counter cross-border terrorism and eliminate Taliban influence in Pakistani territories.
