Security forces foiled multiple sabotage attempts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after recovering and neutralizing explosive devices in Lakki Marwat and South Waziristan, preventing what officials described as potential mass-casualty incidents.
In Lakki Marwat, an intelligence-based operation was carried out within the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station after reports emerged that militants had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) at a public location in Wanda Ameer area.
Police teams, accompanied by the Bomb Disposal Squad, cordoned off the site and conducted a systematic search. The explosive device was successfully defused before it could detonate. Officials said the IED was locally manufactured and contained more than 20 kilograms of explosives, indicating the scale of the planned attack.
In a separate development, explosive material was recovered near the old Dera Ismail Khan bus stand in South Waziristan. Acting on verified intelligence, security forces launched a timely operation and seized the device, averting another major tragedy.
Security sources said militant, after facing operational setbacks, are increasingly attempting to target civilian populations in acts aimed at spreading fear and inciting unrest against the state.
Following the recovery, forces launched a search operation in surrounding areas to trace facilitators and eliminate any remaining threats. Authorities confirmed that the situation remains fully under control.
