Terror Plot Foiled on Karachi Railway Tracks; Five Terrorists Arrested in Major Crackdown

Karachi authorities have successfully disrupted a significant sabotage plan targeting the city’s railway infrastructure, resulting in the arrest of five terrorists involved in plotting large-scale attacks. The operation uncovered a cache of weapons and explosives, underscoring the imminent threat posed by the network.

According to a news briefing by DIG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, the arrested individuals were actively planning acts of destruction on railway tracks, which could have endangered hundreds of civilians and caused severe disruption to national transport networks. Investigations revealed that the operatives were part of an organized network operating from neighboring countries, highlighting cross-border links in terrorist operations.

Further inquiries confirmed that proscribed groups, including Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), were receiving financial and logistical support from India’s intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), enabling them to carry out coordinated attacks within Pakistan. The seizure of weapons, explosives, and related materials demonstrates the operational sophistication of these terrorist networks and the threat they pose to national security.

Authorities emphasized that the arrests represent a major success in Pakistan’s ongoing counterterrorism efforts, showcasing the capabilities of the CTD to identify, infiltrate, and dismantle highly organized terrorist networks before they can execute attacks. Security agencies continue to monitor all related networks, particularly those receiving foreign support, to preempt further threats to public safety and critical infrastructure.

DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar Mahesar reaffirmed the commitment of law enforcement and intelligence agencies to neutralize terrorist elements and ensure that Pakistan’s railway systems and urban centers remain secure. The arrests send a clear message that cross-border terrorism and attempts to destabilize the country will be met with decisive action.
