Security forces foiled a major terrorist plot in Khwazakhela, Swat, recovering two suicide jackets and explosive material during a search operation inside a mosque, official sources confirmed on Sunday.
According to security sources, intelligence reports had indicated that terrorists had established a centre inside the mosque in Khwazakhela to plan an act of terrorism. Acting on the information, security forces launched a search operation, leading to the recovery of two suicide vests and a cache of explosives.
Sources added that terrorists have now adopted a new and alarming tactic of using places of worship for their nefarious designs. “The mosque, a sacred and safe space, was being misused by militants as a hideout. The forces acted swiftly and successfully thwarted what could have been a devastating attack,” a security official said.
The operation highlights the evolving strategies of militant groups and underscores the continued vigilance of security agencies in protecting public safety and sacred spaces.
