In a major security operation addressing rising terrorism threats, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has conducted multiple coordinated raids across Punjab, resulting in the arrest of 49 militants, including an alleged agent of India’s intelligence agency RAW.
According to CTD officials, the operations were carried out over the course of a week based on actionable intelligence. Among the high-profile arrests, Mujtaba, identified as a RAW operative in Lahore, was apprehended. Authorities recovered explosives, firearms, and sensitive maps of key government and critical infrastructure sites from his possession, underscoring the potential scale of planned attacks.
In addition to the RAW agent, the raids led to the seizure of bomb-making materials and suicide vest components from other detained militants. Initial investigations indicate that the suspects were planning coordinated attacks across multiple locations aimed at creating terror and instability among the public.
Over the past month, the CTD has intensified its counter-terrorism efforts across the province, conducting 6,131 combing operations. These operations resulted in the detention of 599 suspects and questioning of 243,546 individuals, reflecting the department’s proactive approach to maintaining law and order and preventing acts of terror.
Operations were carried out in major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Faisalabad. CTD officials have emphasized that intelligence-driven operations will continue and be intensified to thwart any threats to public safety and national security.
These operations demonstrate Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to combating terrorism and neutralizing networks that threaten the lives of its citizens. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help ensure the security of communities across Punjab.
