Security forces in Upper Chitral successfully foiled a potential terror threat as Chitral Levies personnel killed one terrorist in an intense gun battle in the Laspur Bashqar Gol area, while another managed to escape.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Upper Chitral, Moazzam Bangash, the encounter lasted several hours and involved heavy exchange of fire. Acting on a tip-off from local residents who had spotted two armed men, the Levies launched an immediate operation under directives from the Deputy Commissioner.
During the operation, one terrorist was neutralized, and a large cache of weapons and explosives was recovered from the scene. The second militant escaped, prompting a joint search operation by Chitral Scouts, police, and Levies to track him down.
The swift response by the Levies, supported by timely information from vigilant locals, averted a potential security incident in the otherwise peaceful region. Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
The incident marks a rare but serious security breach in Upper Chitral, reinforcing the importance of community vigilance and coordinated law enforcement action.
