Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a strong warning on Sunday, declaring that Tehran does not seek war, but will respond decisively if Israel continues its military aggression.
Speaking at a press briefing, Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s strikes on Israeli targets are a measured act of self-defence, triggered by Israel’s attacks on Iranian nuclear and defence facilities.
“On the first night, we targeted only military sites. Since last night, we’ve expanded our scope to include economic targets, Israeli refineries and infrastructure,” he stated.
Araghchi accused Israel of crossing a red line by launching strikes on sensitive nuclear sites and warned that ongoing escalation could destabilise the entire Persian Gulf region, with potential global consequences.
The foreign minister called Israel’s assault on Iran’s energy infrastructure, including the Asaluyeh energy hub, a “strategic mistake.” He added that Iran would not remain silent if its sovereignty continued to be violated.
He also criticised the United States, alleging it was complicit in the Israeli campaign.
“The U.S. claims neutrality, but we have evidence of its active support to Israel,” said Araghchi. “Washington should publicly denounce Israeli attacks, not just send private messages.”
Araghchi reiterated that Iran will never accept any agreement that restricts its right to nuclear energy, signalling a tougher stance amid increasing tensions.
