More than 500 leading scholars associated with Tanzimat Ahl-e-Sunnat Pakistan have jointly declared suicide attacks inside Pakistan to be unequivocally forbidden (haram), calling such acts a grave violation of Islamic teachings and a direct threat to national stability.
In a comprehensive declaration released on Monday, the scholars stated that Islam and Pakistan are inseparable, emphasising that the protection of the country and its people is a religious responsibility. They warned that no individual or group has the authority to justify violence, rebellion, or attacks on innocent citizens under the guise of religious interpretation.
The joint communiqué strongly condemned what it described as the Taliban’s “collusion with India and Israel,” terming it an anti-Islamic act and a deeply reprehensible deviation from the principles of faith. The scholars said that any cooperation with forces hostile to the Muslim world is unacceptable and must be exposed and rejected at every level.
The declaration further expressed grave concern over the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza. The scholars appealed to global guarantors, international Muslim leadership, and humanitarian bodies to intervene immediately to halt the violence and ensure the protection of unarmed Palestinian civilians. They stressed that the Muslim Ummah carries a shared responsibility to safeguard the people of Gaza against continued atrocities.
Reaffirming their religious verdict, the scholars concluded by reiterating that suicide attacks within Pakistan stand prohibited in Islamic law and that such actions serve only to destabilise the nation and harm innocent lives. They urged the public to remain vigilant against extremist narratives and called upon state authorities to act firmly against elements promoting militancy under religious pretexts.
