Taliban Statement Exposed as a Failed Attempt to Justify Civilian Killings: Ministry of Information

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has strongly rejected statements attributed to the Afghan Taliban administration regarding recent cross-border tensions, describing them as an attempt to deflect attention from what it called a deadly attack on civilians in Pakistan’s border district of Bajaur District.

In an official statement, the ministry said remarks made by the deputy spokesperson of the Taliban government were a “failed attempt” to conceal what it described as a serious and tragic incident targeting civilian areas inside Pakistan.

According to the ministry, Afghan Taliban forces deliberately targeted a populated civilian area in Bajaur, resulting in the deaths of four innocent civilians and leaving a five-year-old child critically injured. The incident has raised fresh concerns over cross-border security along the frontier between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Officials stated that the attack caused widespread fear among residents in the border region and underscored the ongoing security challenges faced by communities living near the Pakistan–Afghanistan boundary.

The ministry emphasized that operations conducted by Pakistan’s armed forces are directed solely against militant hideouts and individuals involved in terrorist activities. It reiterated that Pakistan’s security operations do not target civilian populations and are carried out with the objective of protecting national security and maintaining stability in the border region.

Responding to accusations circulating on social media and through official Taliban channels, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also dismissed what it described as the Afghan Taliban administration’s reliance on artificial intelligence-generated images and videos to support its claims. The ministry said Pakistan does not rely on such materials and accused Taliban-linked communication channels of spreading misinformation.

According to the statement, the dissemination of what it called misleading or fabricated content by official Taliban outlets risks further undermining their credibility both domestically and internationally.

Security analysts note that tensions along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border have periodically escalated in recent years, with both sides exchanging accusations related to militant activity and cross-border attacks.

The recent incident in Bajaur, in which four civilians were killed in what officials described as a cross-border attack by Afghan Taliban forces, has intensified concerns regarding civilian safety and the stability of border communities.
