Sweden has issued a stern warning regarding the security risks posed by certain Afghan migrants residing in Europe, urging the European Union to implement coordinated measures to address the growing concerns. The Swedish government emphasized that criminal activities involving Afghan migrants have escalated into a serious threat to public safety across European nations.
According to statements by the Swedish Minister for Migration, Afghan migrants involved in criminal activities cannot be allowed to remain in European societies. “Individuals engaging in criminal behavior have no place in our communities,” the Minister stated, highlighting the government’s zero-tolerance approach toward criminality.
In line with this position, Sweden has issued ultimatums for the immediate deportation of Afghan migrants who do not comply with legal residency requirements. The Swedish authorities have called for a unified EU system to manage documentation and enforcement procedures for Afghan migrants, ensuring swift and effective action across member states.
“Afghan migrants who engage in crimes will be removed from Sweden under all circumstances. Our commitment to public safety is non-negotiable,” the Swedish Minister added. “We also urge other European nations to coordinate with us to facilitate deportations, including the use of charter flights to return individuals to their home countries.”
This move follows similar measures taken by Germany, Iran, and Turkey, who have also emphasized deportation and stricter controls regarding non-compliant Afghan migrants. The Swedish government warns that failing to address these challenges risks undermining public confidence in the asylum and migration system.
European law enforcement agencies have increasingly linked some Afghan migrants to organized criminal networks involved in drug trafficking, human smuggling, and other illicit activities. Recently, the United Kingdom deported an Afghan gang involved in drug trafficking and human smuggling to Belgium, reflecting a growing continental consensus on the urgent need to address criminality within migrant populations.
The Swedish Ministry of Migration reiterated its call for a coordinated European response to manage Afghan migrants responsibly, balancing humanitarian obligations with the need for public safety. “Europe must act decisively to ensure that criminals do not exploit migration systems. Effective cooperation between nations is essential to safeguard our societies,” the Minister emphasized.
