Suicide Blast in Islamabad a ‘Wake-Up Call,’ Defense Minister Warns Pakistan Still at War

A powerful suicide attack outside the G-11 District Court in Islamabad on Tuesday claimed the lives of 12 people and left over 20 others injured. In response, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif described the incident as a stark reminder that Pakistan remains in a state of war.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the minister warned those who believe that the Pakistan Army only fights in border regions or remote areas of Balochistan to “wake up.” He called the Islamabad attack a “wake-up call,” emphasizing that the fight against terrorism spans the entire country.

“Every day, the Pakistan Army sacrifices its lives to provide the public with security and confidence,” Khawaja Asif said. He stressed that under current circumstances, expecting successful negotiations with the Kabul authorities is futile.

“The Afghan government has the capability to curb terrorism in Pakistan, but attacks reaching Islamabad send a clear message. Pakistan possesses the full capacity to respond decisively,” he added.

Security sources reported that the suicide attack was carried out by a proxy group of the Afghan Taliban, allegedly sponsored by India. The blast was so powerful that the assailant’s head was found on the road near the scene. Rescue teams swiftly transported the injured to PIMS Hospital, where several remain in critical condition. Police and intelligence agencies have cordoned off the area and launched a full investigation into the attack.

The Defense Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve, stating, “Our country has the full capability to confront every threat to its security, sovereignty, and peace. This war against terrorism will be fought to its ultimate conclusion.”
