A Pakistan Army soldier was martyred on Thursday after terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij launched a sniper and small-arms attack on a joint check post in Ghunda Mela, a locality in the scenic yet volatile Tirah Valley of district Khyber.
According to security officials, khawarij opened fire at Ghunda Mela Joint Check Post, critically injuring Naik Awwal Khan. Despite immediate medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.
The Tirah Valley, located near the Afghan border, has long been a strategic and sensitive area, often targeted by cross-border terrorists. This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by terrorists operating in the region.
Following the attack, security forces launched a search and clearance operation to track down the assailants.
The martyrdom of Naik Awwal Khan is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s soldiers in defending the nation’s most challenging frontiers.
