Shehbaz Sharif Meets Al Saud: How Will Pakistan–Saudi Ties Shape Regional Stability?

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their longstanding strategic partnership and commitment to close coordination in addressing emerging regional challenges, following a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Islamabad on March 29.

The meeting underscored the depth of bilateral ties between the two countries, characterized by mutual trust, shared values, and a history of close cooperation across political, economic, and security domains. Both sides engaged in detailed discussions on the evolving regional situation and exchanged views on key geopolitical developments.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his warm regards to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Mohammed bin Salman, reaffirming Pakistan’s “unwavering solidarity” with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that Pakistan remains firmly committed to supporting Saudi Arabia in safeguarding regional peace and stability.

The Prime Minister also commended the Kingdom’s measured and restrained approach amid ongoing regional tensions, noting that such prudence contributes positively to de-escalation efforts. He reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with Saudi Arabia in addressing shared challenges.

Highlighting Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Sharif briefed the Saudi delegation on Islamabad’s recent outreach efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting dialogue. In particular, he referenced Pakistan’s role in encouraging constructive engagement between United States and Iran as part of broader efforts to foster regional stability.

Both sides underscored the importance of unity within the Muslim world and agreed on the need for enhanced cooperation to address common challenges. They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination on regional and international issues, with a shared objective of promoting peace, security, and sustainable development.

The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to further strengthen bilateral relations through continued high-level exchanges and collaborative initiatives.
