The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has identified seven Khawarij involved in the recent bombing in Bajaur, as the investigation reveals disturbing signs of operational convergence or rivalry between Daesh and the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). A statewide crackdown is underway to apprehend the suspects. According to the CTD’s initial investigation report, forensic teams recovered critical evidence from the blast site, including blood samples, IED fragments, explosive residues, and the mangled remains of a motorcycle, confirming the use of a locally fabricated improvised explosive device (IED). The method and materials used point directly to Khawarij cells active in the region.
In a chilling development, both Daesh and TTP-linked propaganda channels have separately claimed responsibility for the attack. The media wing of Daesh, Amaq, released an official statement accepting responsibility, while social media accounts affiliated with TTP simultaneously posted claims of involvement. Security officials believe this reflects either growing collaboration or a race between the two Khawarij factions to assert dominance through acts of mass murder.
“The identification of the seven Khawarij marks a significant breakthrough,” a senior CTD official said. “Targeted operations have been launched to arrest the culprits and dismantle the network behind them. There will be no leniency for enemies of the state.”
Intelligence agencies are closely monitoring what appears to be a shifting dynamic between violent Khawarij factions, with indicators of strategic alignment or competition emerging in recent months. Authorities fear that this overlap could lead to more coordinated attacks unless preemptively disrupted.
The CTD has reiterated its commitment to eliminating all Khawarij networks and their facilitators. Security operations have been intensified in high-risk areas, and citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“No matter who they claim allegiance to; Daesh, TTP, or any other label, Khawarij are united in their mission of bloodshed and destruction,” the official said. “The state will respond with full force, and these murderers will face the consequences.”
