Security forces on Friday shot down an Indian drone that had entered Pakistani territory near the Manawan area on the outskirts of Lahore, in what officials described as a serious breach of national airspace. Police sources said the drone’s movement was detected inside Pakistan, prompting an immediate operational response. Security personnel engaged the target and successfully brought it down before it could carry out its intended mission. Initial assessments indicate that the unmanned aerial vehicle was equipped for surveillance purposes and did not contain any explosives.
The downed drone was swiftly secured by intelligence agencies, who have launched a detailed forensic and technical examination to determine its exact origin, flight path, and operational objectives. All aspects, including potential data transmission and reconnaissance targets, are being analysed.
Officials noted that such incidents raise concerns over repeated violations of Pakistan’s airspace, particularly along sensitive border zones. Pakistan has, in the past, lodged formal protests with India over the unauthorised use of aerial platforms, terming them a violation of sovereignty and international norms governing cross-border military conduct. Diplomatic and defence circles expect the matter to be taken up through relevant channels once the ongoing technical evaluation is completed.
