Security forces foiled an attack by Khawarij in Zarkani village of Darazinda tehsil, Dera Ismail Khan, after the assailants attempted to target personnel stationed at the local post. Prompt retaliation by the troops successfully repelled the assault, with no casualties reported.
According to reports, the Khawarij had earlier threatened local shopkeepers, warning them against selling supplies to personnel deployed at the Zarkani post. When the shopkeepers were later summoned by the Army for coordination, the attackers opened sudden and heavy fire from the direction of Zarkani village. They also launched an RPG-7 round, which exploded mid-air before hitting its target.
Troops of FC Platoon 538 and the Pakistan Army’s 74 Punjab Regiment immediately returned fire, forcing the assailants to retreat under pressure. Security officials confirmed that a search operation is underway in the surrounding areas to trace and apprehend the fleeing Khawarij.
