Security forces in Ziarat, Balochistan, have foiled a major terrorism plot by arresting five Afghan nationals linked to militancy during a swift and coordinated operation. According to the district administration, the suspects, believed to be residents of Kandahar, Afghanistan, were apprehended at the Spera Ragha Levies checkpoint.
Ziarat’s Deputy Commissioner said the operation was launched on timely intelligence, leading to the recovery of a large cache of weapons, explosives and communication devices from the possession of the arrested militants.
The seized items include 11 hand grenades, three SMGs, two M4 rifles (in parts), a grenade launcher, nine M4 magazines, 14 SMG magazines, 420 SMG rounds, 230 M4 rounds, one kilogram of explosive material, six wireless sets, four mobile phones, two RPGs, a digger, 13 ammunition bags, 16 power cells, 15 SMG grenades, a Suzuki carry van, a motorcycle and literature linked to the banned TTP.
Officials say the timely arrests prevented a major attack in the region. Further investigation is underway to determine the group’s intended targets and any possible facilitators within the area.
