Russia has reiterated its call for India to de-escalate tensions with Pakistan and return to diplomatic engagement, following rising regional concerns after the recent violence in Indian-administered Kashmir.
According to international media, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke with his Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar, stressing that both India and Pakistan must rely on existing frameworks — namely the Simla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration — to resolve disputes peacefully.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Lavrov made it clear that Russia stands firmly for peace and regional stability, and believes India must avoid escalating tensions and instead give priority to dialogue.
The renewed call comes in the wake of the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where 26 people were killed in a shooting incident. India, without providing any evidence, blamed Pakistan and unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty — a key agreement governing water sharing between the two nations.
Pakistan strongly condemned the attack and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered full cooperation in a neutral investigation. Despite this, India continues to issue aggressive statements.
In response, Pakistan’s political and military leadership has made its position clear: any aggression will be met with a decisive and unforgettable response.
