Puntland Forces Kill Over 20 ISIS Terrorists in Stream Balade Offensive

In a significant counter terrorism operation, more than 20 militants affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) were reportedly killed by Puntland security forces during a series of strikes in the Cadalle area of Stream Balade, Somalia, according to Somali Security Insight. The offensive targeted ISIS hideouts in the rugged terrain of Stream Balade, a known militant stronghold in the northeastern Bari region. Sources said the operation was part of a broader campaign to neutralize extremist threats in Puntland and disrupt the group’s ability to reorganise in the area.

Security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that intelligence-led raids led to the elimination of over 20 militants, while several others reportedly fled the scene. Weapons, communication equipment, and documents were also seized during the operation.

Puntland authorities have not yet issued an official statement, but security analysts say the success of the operation underscores Puntland’s growing capacity to confront the Islamic State faction, which has been active in the mountainous regions of northeastern Somalia since 2015.

Stream Balade has long been used by ISIS for training and regrouping due to its remote and difficult terrain. This latest operation is expected to significantly weaken the group’s presence in the area.

Somali observers say the development marks one of the most substantial blows dealt to ISIS militants in Puntland in recent months.
